Today, almost anything can be bought online including your prescription glasses. The rise of various websites has allowed for people to shop for their glasses from home. So, you're asking yourself why should I buy my prescription glasses from my eye doctor instead of just going through a website?
Let's look at eleven reasons why getting your glasses through an optometry practice has distinct advantages to current online options.
Vision insurance is important for many of our patients and that's why we are in-network with nearly all major insurers. When you come to any of our offices, we take the time to look up your insurance and notify you of your benefits. It's authorized immediately and your benefits are explained to you. There's no need to fill out any reimbursement form or try to understand your benefits on your own.
We are credentialed and authorized providers for nearly all vision insurances. Certain types of vision insurance, through the state or federal governments, need a knowledgeable professional to make sure everything is filed correctly. Let us handle the insurance and file it correctly the first time without you ever dealing with the insurance company.
2. Ability to choose from over 1,000 frames that you get to hold in your hands and feel how they fit on your face
The beauty of an actual store is that you get to really see the frame and not just look at it on a screen. How many times have you seen a shirt or pair of shoes in a color you like online, only to be caught off-guard when red magically becomes pink? What exactly does electric crimson look like? At 20/20 EyeCare, you'll know exactly what it looks like because you will hold the frame in your hands, not rely on the pixels in your computer screen.
There's something to be said for holding something in your hands and feeling how the glasses fit on your face. You could try on hundreds of frames if you desire because that's the purpose of a frame showroom. We want you to know what the glasses feel like before you purchase them and give you an opportunity to discover your preferences. Nose pads could be something that you know you need to avoid or you may discover that the extremely lightweight drill mount frames are exactly what you need. These realizations come with wearing the frames and feeling how the fit on your face.
We don't always know what we want when we go shopping, especially when it's something that we will use every single day like a pair of glasses. It's nice to have someone there to provide a helping hand in providing an opinion from a style perspective, as well as, a vision perspective. Some of us need to have bifocals, trifocals, or progressives where the frame size and shape play a very important role as to the vision that you will have with the different frames. Additionally, the bifocal height must be measured correctly to make sure you will be able to read easily through the lenses. A wrong reading height measurement only causes frustration for you when it need not be an issue.
Progressive lenses, in particular, require a certain amount of lens area to be able to properly fit all the different visual fields (distance, intermediate, and reading) into the lenses. If you were to choose a frame with a smaller lens area, you may lose parts of those needed areas or one area altogether. That's a primary reason why a trained technician can counsel you and alert you to any issues that may arise from choosing different styles of frames.
4. We're in your community and have been a trusted eye care provider for over 25 years
We're in your community and have been for years and in some cases decades. We have helped tens of thousands of people find the right pair of glasses for their needs and their style. We are proud to provide eye care and prescription eyeglasses to generations of families that we've seen grow up over the last 25 years. Our goal has always been to provide superior service at affordable prices and we do not waiver from that guiding principle.
There will always be other arenas where you may find a lower price, but is paying a lower price the only concern when you purchase a new pair of glasses? Of course not, you're juggling multiple needs and concerns like you would for any significant purchase. We want to help you with all of those concerns from style and function to affordability. All of us, at 20/20 EyeCare, are a resource to help you make the best decision for you.
5. Ability to help you solve any problems you may encounter immediately and in-person
How many times have you called customer service looking for help with a problem you're having only to either wait on hold forever or end the call more confused than when you started? That's the advantage of a physical optometry practice location over an online retailer.
Now, there are some online retailers that have built physical locations (none of these are currently available in our communities) or have partnered with national optical chains to offer assistance. Why not just have all that you need in one location? We can offer you immediate assistance for any issue that you are having with your glasses be it fit, prescription, style, or repair.
Our technicians, doctors, and opticians understand your needs and are happy to work with you to find solutions. You are our patient and we will work tirelessly to ensure that you are satisfied and your vision needs are met that day.
6. Adjust the prescription with the help of a licensed optometrist
Sometimes when we get new glasses, there can be small changes to be made with the lenses due to issues with getting used to the prescription or that the vision just isn't quite crisp enough. That's why 20/20 EyeCare's doctors are happy to re-check the prescription and make any needed changes to your glasses. The technicians will then remake those lenses with the new prescription through our laboratory or our contracted laboratory if specialty coatings are involved.
All of this happens immediately and does not require you to perform any steps on your own. No need for you to contact customer service, coordinate shipping, send your glasses away, and trust that those issues will be fixed when you receive your glasses. We handle it all and will give you a call when those new prescription lenses are received. It's as simple as that.
7. Help you understand what your options are and the best use of your money
Here is the largest misunderstanding in the conversation between online retailers and local optometry practices. Our goal is to explain the different options available to you and guide you as to what options make the most sense for your needs within your budget. It's easy to portray local optometry practices as insensitive, price-gouging companies that have no respect for your needs or budget. However, that's not how we operate at 20/20 EyeCare because we would not be here without you, our patient. There's no incentive for us to do things that will lose our patients' respect and trust.
Let's describe what we do to help you. There are numerous lens materials and styles, as well as, frames that range from budget-friendly to high fashion designers. We want to understand what you need from your new pair of glasses and go from there.
Is it purely about function? Are they an important accessory for your everyday style? Do you need to read small print and would you want to have all your needed visual fields in your lenses? Do you struggle with glare when you drive at night? These are the conversations we have with our patients directly and it creates the guideline for what works best for you.
8. We do the repairs and adjustments for you instead of it becoming a DIY disaster
Nose pads digging into your nose? Glasses sliding down your face? Glasses a bit cockeyed? We can help you with these issues and all the other adjustments that need to be made with a pair of glasses. All of our offices have either a dedicated optician or technicians that have passed the optician's state exam and in nearly all offices, both. This kind of knowledge base allows for us to adjust your glasses to fit your lifestyle and needs.
No need for you to read FAQs and watch YouTube videos in hopes of learning to properly adjust your glasses when we're right down the street. We will adjust any pair of glasses free of charge, regardless of where you bought them because it's invaluable to have a pair of glasses that fit comfortably.
Missing a screw? Need new nose pads? Restring your rimless frames? We’ve got you covered for small repairs for your glasses. Don’t bother with those mini eyeglass repair kits that, in a cruel twist, require you to repair your glasses with tiny screws that you need your glasses to see. We’ll take care of those pesky little screws, small strings, and uncomfortable nose pads.
9. We provide all types of lenses and materials
When you come to see us, we can offer many different types and lenses and materials. We are not restricted to only certain types of lenses or prescription needs. We offer the latest lens technology to you and your family in single vision, bifocals, and trifocals. Work on a computer all day at work? We've got you covered. Some of our patients cannot get used to a progressive lens and so they need the ability to have separate pairs of glasses or lined bifocals. We want to help you find your perfect pair of glasses and providing a wide array of options will guarantee that your glasses meet your individual needs.
Also, we have the ability to offer a variety of different prescription lens materials including glass. We can explain the benefits of all the different materials to you and recommend the one that best suits you. This flexibility allows us to serve your specific needs and not force you into a predetermined box of what lens option might work for you and your prescription.
10. We handle all prescription needs without restrictions
Do you have special prescription requirements such as a very high minus (nearsightedness), plus (farsightedness), prism, or any other specific prescription need? We can fill any prescription requirement that you may have for your new pair of glasses. There are no terms or limits to what we can do to meet your needs. We will create the ideal pair of prescription glasses for you, so you can see the world clearly.
11. We accept many different forms of payment
We take all major credit cards, personal checks, cash, bank cards, Care Credit©, and FSA/HSA cards in all of our offices. Some people are wary of credit cards for a variety of reasons and are far more comfortable paying with cash or personal check. That's why we provide you with all of these payment options to meet your payment needs and do not force you to use your credit/debit card.
We have taken further steps to improve the safety of your personal information when you choose to use your microchip credit/debit card at our offices. All of our credit/debit card readers include EMV microchip readers built-in that provide the strongest form of protection available. The EMV microchip technology uses unique transaction codes each time it is used to shield your information.
How many times have you inserted your card only to be told that their reader doesn’t work and you have to swipe your card? We have offered working EMV chip reader protection to our patients since well before the October 1, 2015 deadline.
Wouldn’t you want to be able to use that new microchip debit/credit card, the way it is intended to work, with all of its personal data protection?
Our experience, as an eye care provider and a trusted member of your community, allows us to truly connect with you and help you make the best decision possible. Personalized service is hallmark of 20/20 EyeCare and let us show you what a difference it can make to your vision.
